Pizzicato (plucking the string) using the right hand can be carried out in a number of different ways:

• Bowhold - keep your bowhold intact, and just extend your finger out towards the string, plucking from the air
• Fist - hold the bow in a closed fist as you pluck the string
• No bow - put the bow down and don't hold it at all!

You can generally use either the 1st or the 2nd finger for pizzicato. Try plucking with both, and see which is best for you.
