Arco: Play the violin using the bow.

Interval: the distance between two notes.

Octave: An interval that is the size of eight notes, where the lower of the notes has half the frequency of the other.

Open String: A violin string played without being ‘stopped’ by left hand fingers, and therefore sounding at its default pitch.

Pizzicato: Pluck the strings of the violin with your finger.
